Welcome to the neighborhood, GNF! The Startup Community came out in full force for Good Neighbor Fund's "Welcome to the Neighborhood party." Jason Bartz (404 Link Removed) and Susan O'Rourke (404 Link Removed) kicked off the night explaining the mission of Good Neighbor Fund and their future plans. Sonya Tareke spoke on her experiences and introduced Sanskriti Bansal →and Daniel Chan (404 Link Removed) - two outstanding UB students - to talk about what entrepreneurship means to them.

One PhD, Three Minutes

One PhD, Three Minutes

We spotted BootSector's executive director, Jordan Walbesser (404 Link Removed) , hosting the University at Buffalo's Three Minute Thesis (404 Link Removed) competition. Participants are judged on the ability to effectively convey the essence and importance of their research in an engaging way to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes, with one PowerPoint slide. Talk about a tough pitch!

Nice Launch, Milestone!

Milestone, a settlement planning consulting firm in Buffalo, launched a new technology platform, Pathway, that intends to bring the legal industry up to speed with paying claimants. The company has been working on Pathway for about four years and started moving people through it in the fall.

The Syracuse-based group, led by managing partners Nasir Ali, Chuck Stormon and Mike Quigley, focuses on investing in companies outside of major venture capital hubs. The group raised about $20 million in its second fund to go toward investments.

The firm focuses on early-stage seed through Series A funding for software-as-a-service and business-to-business marketplace startups.
